1. How to read the Quran for beginners?
For beginners, it is essential to start with Noorani Qaida to learn Arabic letters and pronunciation. After mastering the basics, you can move on to reading the Quran with Tajweed rules. Learning from a qualified tutor ensures proper recitation.
Qur’an says:
“And recite the Qur’an with measured recitation.”
(Surah Al-Muzzammil 73:4)
"وَرَتِّلِ الْقُرْآنَ تَرْتِيلًا"
2. Is it haram to force your child to read the Quran?
While parents should encourage their children to read the Quran, forcing them harshly or in a way that causes hatred is not appropriate in Islam. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
“Make things easy and do not make them difficult. Cheer the people up and do not drive them away.”
(Bukhari & Muslim)
Teaching should be with love, wisdom, and patience.
3. How long does it take to read the Quran?
Reading the Quran completely can take from 30 days to several months, depending on your pace and time commitment. Regular readers who recite one juz (part) a day can complete it in 30 days, which is a common practice during Ramadan.
4. What is the prayer after completing the Quran?
After finishing the Quran, it is recommended to make dua, as this is a blessed moment. There’s no specific wording in Sunnah, but scholars mention general duas of gratitude, guidance, and blessings.
For example:
“O Allah, make the Quran the spring of our hearts and the light of our chests.”
(Narrated in Ahmad)
5. Can I read the Quran on my period?
According to many scholars, a woman may recite the Quran during menstruation without touching the physical Mushaf. Using a digital device (mobile, tablet, etc.) is allowed. However, some scholars differ. You should follow the opinion of the school of thought you trust.
Qur’an does not prohibit reading during menstruation, but touching the Mushaf directly is avoided based on scholarly interpretations of Surah Al-Waqi’ah 56:79:
“None touch it except the purified.”
(Surah Al-Waqi'ah 56:79)
"لَا يَمَسُّهُ إِلَّا الْمُطَهَّرُونَ"
6. Can you read the Quran without Wudu?
Yes, you can recite the Quran without wudu from memory or using a digital device. However, to touch the physical Mushaf (printed Quran), wudu is required according to majority of scholars.
7. Can I read the Quran without Wudu on my phone?
Yes, you can read the Quran on your phone without Wudu because you're not touching the physical Mushaf. However, it’s recommended to be in a state of cleanliness out of respect for the Quran.
8. What religion reads the Quran?
The Quran is the holy book of Islam. Muslims believe it is the final revelation from Allah to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and is read by over 1.9 billion Muslims around the world.
9. How to read English Quran?
To read the Quran in English, you can choose a reliable translation like:
Sahih International
Dr. Muhsin Khan
Pickthall
Reading the English Quran helps understand the meanings, but the Arabic Quran remains the original and should be read and memorized alongside translation when possible.
Qur’an says:
“Indeed, We have sent it down as an Arabic Qur’an so that you may understand.”
(Surah Yusuf 12:2)
10. What should I say before reading the Quran?
Before reciting the Quran, say:
"A‘ūdhu billāhi min ash-shayṭāni r-rajīm"
(I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed devil)Then say:
"Bismillāh ir-Raḥmān ir-Raḥīm"
(In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful)
This is based on the Quran:
“So when you recite the Qur’an, seek refuge in Allah from Shaytan, the accursed.”
(Surah An-Nahl 16:98)
